St. Helens & South Lancashire Rail & Bus Site:

The "Low Level" line through Warrington.

The "Low Level" is so described because trains pass through the site of the former station at Warrington Bank Quay Low Level. It originally ran from Ditton Junction to Broadheath Junction, with passenger services continuing to Manchester Oxford Road. There was also a connection to the CLC line at Skelton Junction. The line east of Latchford run-round loop at Warrington is now closed. The main traffic on the remaining section is coal for Fiddlers Ferry Power Station.

Until 1962, a passenger service ran between Manchester Oxford Road, Warrington Bank Quay Low Level, Ditton Junction & Liverpool Lime Street. Here, 84000 is at Oxford Road on 12 May 1962. One of the LMS-built Altrincham line emu's is on the left.
