St. Helens & South Lancashire Rail & Bus Site.
Clock Face to Widnes area.
Many of the railways around Widnes were closed to passengers, or completely in the 1950's and 1960's. Passenger services remain only on the former CLC line, about 1½ miles north of the town centre. See the bottom of the page to view a schematic diagram of Widnes railways.

60078 approaches Carterhouse Junction, Widnes, with mgr empties from Fiddlers Ferry to Bootle Gladstone Dock, with the power station cooling towers behind the train. However, as the junction at Fiddlers Ferry faces east, this train had first to travel to Warrington (Latchford Sidings) and reverse before it could travel west via Ditton Junction towards Edge Hill and Bootle. |
